I love this record and fortunately have an original Canadian pressing from 1990 that sounds stellar but picked this limited splatter pressing of 500 because it looked beautiful. Unfortunately, both sides of the vinyl was riddled with nasty surface scratches that were quite bad and very audible on many tracks. Argh! I have to stop falling for these coloured vinyl gimmicks! D’oh! But it is purty!

The moment the record started playing something did not sound right to my ears. I then began comparing the vinyl sound to my mp3 copy and found that the mp3 sounded far better - the vinyl sounded quite flat in comparison. Not sure if I just got a bum copy as apparently I'm the only person to have this issue. Returned my copy for a refund. Was told they issued based on the masters they received from Elektra. I asked if they were specifically vinyl masters but received no answer.
spacebreeze
The printing will rarely look as good as the original, but that's not an indication of the remastering quality.

I have bought and just received this reissue. I didn't start the listening but my first feeling when i got this reissue was a feeling of disappointment. The picture sleeve of the reissue is not as good as the original. Look at the original picture sleeve pressing and you wil see the difference of quality. So when i read you review, i even don't dare to start listening the record. Better buying the original edition instead of these reissues.

Thanks for the insight. I wonder what masters are even available. It wasn't clear if the recent 2 CD deluxe was remastered. It's a damn shame that Elektra/WEA isn't interested in reissuing any Deee-Lite material (not counting the cash-grab RSD “Groove Is In The Heart” pink 12"), and it's always third parties having to license it.
Gavikelv
Sound is deee-grooooovy! Excellent pressing. super quiet, lots of dynamics, and the splatter is gorgeous!
Majin
Hey deee-lovely people—how does this sound? Is there any information on the mastering, cutting, pressing? Runouts? I have the original German pressing, but it's only VG++ and would purchase this if it's a significant upgrade. Nice colors on the vinyl. What would really be welcomed as a World Clique reissue would be a double LP that includes the two CD-only tracks (“Deee-Lite Theme” and “Build The Bridge”) plus the non-album b-side “Riding On Through.” Other than this being a limited edition, isn't the one-LP version readily available on black and colored (purple, I think) vinyl?
Modigas
Surprised to find the LP versions of World Clique do not include the Deee-Lite Theme song! I was heartbroken.... But then that faded and I was happy to be listening to the rest of the album. I wonder who made the decision to axe intro song from the LP version, and why? I can only guess it would be a consideration of total length of each side, since side 1 has longer songs on it, but it was definitely possible to include it. At any rate, the album for me absolutely starts with the Deee-Lite Theme Song, and not Good Beat. It's like trying to listen to TMBG's Flood album with 'Theme From Flood' removed (another classic from 1990).

Crap quality Argentine pressing and vinyl. The label says "Elektra Records" but the pressing and mastering is local. It's also missing the internal sleeve with the artwork and lyrics. The vinyl is thinner than US product at that time, resembling the infamous 1970s RCA Dynaflex. Not worth even a tenth of what they are asking for on Discogs. Most Argentines don't own quality turntables. This is due to 70 years of peronism which brough about inflation and the scarcity or extremely expensive prices, of quality goods like cartridges and turntables. The results are shitty quality products, carelessness in record storage, styli that are marginally thinner than a nail, heavy tonearms (coins on top of the cart to prevent skipping), and rodiculously high ripoff prices. Stay away from Argentine pressings unless the album is pressed nowhere else. Oh, and did I mention that not only the vinyl is of the worst quality as far as reproduction and noise are concerned, but also that their quality control is as bad as Raibo pressings as the albums are off center?

Anyone have any guidance on the best pressing to go for US or European one?Cheers
Invissibale
European, always. The US labels outsource their pressing to Rainbo (no typo) pressing plant, and not only their sound quality leaves much to be desired, but also they press their records off center. This happened a LOT. I went through 4 copies of The Beatles White Album, returning them all, until I shelled out $10 more and got a European pressing. It's like night and day. Raibo and other US pressing plants are so swamped with orders that they neglect quality control.

At the turn of the decade, in the year 1990, "World Clique" was one damn great cocktail - drink it once, the taste remains. Sadly, Deee-lite continue to slightly suffer ever since, due to a one-hit wonder episode being "Groove Is In the Heart" - and while you just can't get enough of the bastard, remember there are 9 (or 11, if you prefer the CD) delicacies more. A truly slick mixture of hip-hop, soul (Lady Miss Kier's vocal stylings are downright superb!), house and techno, marking a rock solid record that will continue to last. Try it on, it's very you.

ne mogu reći da sam probao slušati album, nije mi palo na pamet čak ali 'ajde kad kažeš, cheers!
Nafyn
Does anyone know if this is digitally sourced? I've heard about some of the releases having cd skips on the pressings.
Elildelm
This purple wax pressing is lovely, as is the glossy cover sleeve. Unfortunately the pictures on front, back covers and labels are awful scans from the original artwork. However, sound quality seems to be great.
Mr Freeman
Deee-Lite ... What can I say? A unique mainstream band who were pioneering retro before retro was mainstream. Awesome 90's house / electronic / acid style music on this album. There's been nothing like it ever since.
Gholbirdred
Could someone add photos of the packaging/booklet and/or comment on the mastering? I'm on the fence about buying this (the 2017 reissued CD).
Yggfyn
Has an interview with Lady Kier and photos from that era including the single covers. Buy it!
Unereel
The remastering has great, clean sound. The booklet has an interview with Lady Kier and also has the vinyl sleeve prints and photos. The remixes are also remastered.
Talvinl
Disc 2, track 6 is mislabelled. It's actually 'Build The Bridge (Jungle Groove Mix)'. The same mistake was on the 1990 European 'Power Of Love (Remix)/How Do You Say...Love' CD single which is probably why the same mistake happened on this release.
Ienekan
Massively underrated, this album is an absolute gem. Great sonics on the vinyl edition too and ahead of its time back in 1990.
Kesalard
I stuck this back on the turntable a couple of days ago; a glorious hot afternoon, with this blasting away, like a funkier less self-conscious KLF... lovely.
Hellmaster
Any word on how this one sounds? Only 1000 total?

I recently was fortunate enough to grab a copy of this still sealed, mint condition! I already owned the european original i found used but in not great condition so thought i should grab a mint copy while i can.I feel some copies may not come with the sticker on the back indicating rhino&scorpio's involvement, unless the store peeled off the sticker, mine did not come with one. Other than the info on the sticker its the only indication i could find of their involvement. The vinyl feels a bit heavier than the original which is great!! Very clean vinyl&quiet pressing. Nice bass&sounds DEEELITEful!! The center label change on side a is a nice touch(it has the cover image on it, so its pretty cool to see kier spinning around as the music plays!) The only drawback i found with this pressing is that the original printed inner sleeve with credits&fun illustrations doesnt come with it, and the cover image isnt as sharp as the originals&appears slightly blurry under close inspection in comparison. But if you can live through those details DEFINITELY grab a copy of this GREAT album that transcends the 90s into timelessness! It still sounds GREAT!!Also worth mentioning is although this reissue doesnt include build a bridge nor deeelite theme, which were included only on cd&cassette copies of the album, is an indication that elektra indeed most likely used the original plates or tapes as the source for getting this pressed which is good... besides those two tracks can be found on vinyl single copies of power of love which can be easily found, much easier than the album strangely!
Garr
Just picked up a mint copy of this album on vinyl in London :) Bargain of the year for me..

Definitely one of the most beloved albums of its time. The concept, the songs, the voice of Lady Miss Kier Kirby - all set to perfect match. Deee-lite will probably be most remembered for their ultimate smash-hit 'Groove is in the heart', not to forget their extravagant image. However, while many clubs still offer 'Groove' on permanent display, other songs are not to be underrestimated for this is a fully blooded high quality debut.Differences between LP and CD editions (which add couple of more gems to the list) are minor - opening 'Deee-lite Theme' and the closing number 'Build the Bridge' sadly missed the LP completists; the first one is a slower, sexy beatbox expertise while the last keeps House music in its fairly obscure frame. In the middle, the songs are a wonderful mixture of club music incorporating most of its popular styles; techno, acid, soul, jazz, etc. 'Good Beat' explains it perfectly - 'Depending on how you see a thing.' Eclectic enough to accept this statement and find something for yourself; 'The Power of Love' (personally, I prefer its single mix rather than the album version), the extraordinary 'Try Me On... I'm Very You', somewhat lazy 'Smile On' and the YMO-filtered 'What Is Love?' demonstrate DJ Dmitry and Jungle DJ Towa Towa's skills perfectly. 'World Clique', an honest, naive social statement of intent and 'E.S.P.' should have also been there on the dancefloor to the present day - but, I guess, they are club gems sadly left imprisoned by the album format. And then, the ever-present 'Groove Is In The Heart', the song that propelled the trio skyrocket. Interesting about the samples information from the earlier post here on discogs; a friend of mine accidentally found out he had some obscure LP record containing belly dance instructions, and the music opening 'Groove Is In The Heart' is the exact sample off that record (the original belly dance piece is a recommended find in itself as that music is actually a fine mix between orchestrated jazz and the exotic - sadly, I have no idea what is the name of that record). 'Who Was That?' a comic little tune about burglary follows, ending with a juicy midnight snack, while 'Deep-ending' is another great, 'never-to-be' club hit (interesting, here Deee-lite sample The The's 'Uncertain Smile' to great effect). In all, 'World Clique' made Deee-lite a deserved phenomenon - a lot of people helped it out, one way or the other - a thanks-list on the album's sleeve is quite long for your personal pleasure of discovering how many actually inspired the group. Maybe all of their later albums never repeated the commercial success of this one, but maybe it wasn't meant to be that commercial anyway. 'World Clique' just got them into spotlight at the right moment. 20 years on, and the timing of the record still sounds perfect.

"Groove is in the heart" contains many samples: - The bassline was sampled from "Bring down the birds" performed by Herbie Hancock. - The rhythm, crowd noises and flute sounds were sampled from "Get up" performed by Vernon Burch. - The "I" vocal snippet was sampled from the TV theme of "The green acres" written by Vic Mizzy. - The "Bllll!" vocal snippet was sampled from "Hateful head Helen" performed by Sweet Pussy Pauline. "Esp" contains an orchestral sample taken from the TV theme of "Bewitched" written by Howard Greenfield and Jack Keller. The vocals of Bill "chicken on fire" Coleman on "Build the bridge" were later used in "Activator (you need some)" by the project 'Whatever, Girl' (Bill Coleman & Louie "Balo" Guzman).
