Simultaneously hailed as an underground classic and cast aside as poorly produced backpack rap, Operation: Doomsday inaugurated the reign of MF Doom in underground rap from the early to mid-2000s. The pretext for the album is very similar to that of Marvel Comics supervillain Dr. Doom after MF Doom, then known as Zevlove X, had been devastated by the death of his brother and . accomplice, DJ Sub-Roc, in the early '90s, Elektra dropped his group and stopped the release of its second album, Black Bastards, due to its. political message and, more specifically, its cover art

weird to see all the negative reviews - my version is crystal clear and the bass is heavy, balanced well, dynamic.. one of my favorite hip-hop records i own. i guess there might be multiple pressings - but there's at least one pressing that's awesome
Bil
Out of the shrink LP2 had at least 20 small divots as though a rat had been biting the record. That being said, it sounds perfectly fine considering the fidelity of the original recordings
Nidor
My copy has a few dimples and pops on side one of disc two, but it plays thru fine and sound is great. I couldn't be bothered with a return, maybe the replacement would have more issues than this one. As we know this album is class!!
Mr.Champions
Sorry, I didnt see this earlier... the actual audio quality is v good
Erthai
any distortion? sibilant? i'm trying to decide between this or the all silver cover.
Zinnthi
I keep coming back to this album. Listened to so many albums since this came out, but very few I come back to. This one definitely is a work of ART!
Winail
While I cant judge the quality of the 7''s in this compared to other 7''s, heres a small advice. This is only worth it if you are a hardcore fan or collector1.7''s have worse quality than 12'' LPs and Singles2.You have to turn the record 7 times and also switch the 7''s out 6 times. This is more for putting on the shelf than listening to
Gralmeena
Try soulseek and download ; 1) much better quality and 2) much, much more convenient and 3) much much much cheaper
Uaha
Delicious treats...More colour than ghosface's clarkes collection.Classic album in an awesome box set. A hit, from the artwork to the DOOM 45 adapters.

I was introduced to DOOM off of "Madvillany", after hearing "Operation Doomsday", I am still glad for that, but have gained a further appreciation for those who began the Doom journey here . This record revealed the beginnings of DOOM the MC as well as the narrative of Von Doom of "Fantastic Four " fame. We start with the evolution of Love to Doom after the lost of Doom's brother in rhyme Sub-Roc described on "Doomsday" and loosely throughout the rest of the LP. This loss is a catalyst for the creation of the mask, just as the lab accident that left Von Doom scarred. Despite the physical scars, the genius is still left unscathed as evidenced throughout classics like "Gas Drawls" and "Rhymes Like Dimes". Doom's jazzy instrumentals provide the most of-kilter pockets for him to place his free-form bars, arguably though this leaves a member of the Fantastic Four to snatch the crown away from Doom for best verse on the LP for the album standout "Tik Tok". Despite the L, DOOM holds his own on the LP, though I was disappointed that he switched to other personas (i.e. King Geedorah) in the LP and with that did not fully stick to a cohesive narrative, but it isn't as if any DOOM album is completely cohesive on the first listen, but , "Madvilliany" and "The Mouse And The Mask" obtain more replay value than this labor of love.

Anyone got just the sleeve for sale? Have the discs but no sleeve!
WinDImmortaL
My copy sounds great. As others have noted, it's not an album with particularly high sound quality in the first place.Essential album.
Kadar
"Only in America could you find a way to make a healthy buck while still keep your attitude on self-destruct."And only on Discogs can you ask if anyone is selling the 1st LP (Side 0 and Side1) of this pressing. I have the 2nd disc and the sleeve. Again, just looking to BUY THE 1ST DISC. Thanks
Olma
Amazing pressing! Clear sound with next to no background noise.
Frostdefender
This boxset is an awesome addition for a DOOM fan! Everything is put together nicely and each 45 sounds nice. The OBI strip seems easy to lose since it isn't held on by anything but other than that I have no complaints.
Keth
Hello, so as you've seen below this pressing has surface noise issues. My copy is a hype sticker on the left. There is a pattern of surface noise that rises and disappears. this pressing is not the best... you can hear the music just fine but you WILL static and crackling during it.Quite annoying. A disappointing presssing. If you can, cop the original.
Buzatus
Mine has no ST-02 as well. But the bar codes and everything else matches.About the sound: yes the recording is quiet, but I can't say that I feel any surface noise. The quality (pressing) feels good. I haven't heard the first release, but have a digital copy of the album and it does feel rough and distorted as well. Can't judge the pressing quality for this just by listening. Using Shure M44G for playback.
Hadadel
I have this cover but I have red and black split vinyls. I can't find a trace of this anywhere.
Umor
Can anyone tell me if this album comes sealed? I know the red/black repress (which also includes the poster) is not sealed, both original and new artwork versions.
cyrexoff
Bought a copy over a year ago and the pressing had lots of loud pops and noticeable dimples in the vinyl, returned it and swapped for another that was flawless. I don’t know for sure if this was a regular problem with these but the second copy sounds pretty damn clean. Definitely louder than the lackluster silver cover 2xLP pressing from 2013 in my opinion.
Daizil
How does this pressing sound?I need some more words .
Togar
Mine came sealed with a sticker on the shrink wrap...
Mullador
Pressing is more or less quiet but causes some good deal of high-end mistracking, probably stems from a bad cut, pretty damn listenable nonetheless. No clicks or wooshing bouts of surface noise to be heard like many feared.
fightnight
looks more like orange than red but it sounds sweet.
GoodLike
I made a different submission for the sound quality pressing but people didn't believe me & my submission was merged. There is a sound quality issue with the LPs that have the hype sticker on the right. Hype sticker on the left sounds fine.
Akirg
basically, its easy to check out the original, cause the original has much more brighter colors than this one.buts its a good reissue.the sound quality is niceand the weight of the vinyl is pretty light:about 130gr. ( ready for cuttin ;)
Pooker
Where can i buy this specific press? (UK) I really want the original cover.
Sadaron above the Gods
Juno records doesn't appear to have this specific pressing in stock, but they do have a normal black OG cover in stock. This was released in 2016 and limited to only 1000 copies. It is likely long out of print.
Purestone
juno.co.uk have it still. they have both covers in stock
Zieryn
Got both of them last week, superb re-release, plays awesome on my Technics SL1500
Rollers from Abdun
I just got an email saying release date in u.k. been pushed back to first week of September
Goltigor
Yep they shipped it, should arrive tomorrow, so it should be on time in the U.K. as well?
Zonama
I ordered mine from HHV.de and the release date there is marked as 19.08.2016. Guess i'll see soon if they ship it out.
Gavirus
Who will hold preorders for Europe? Can't find info about release.
romrom
Have to agree with all these comments, just picked this up, crazy amount of surface noise, pains me to say but I'd avoid this at all costs.
xander
Superb album, but the pressing is really bad. Lots of sibilance and distortion on all tracks on mine.
Xmatarryto
Low surface noise on mine, but some slight sibilance and inner-groove distorsion. Not a great sounding record to start with though.
Gaeuney
The surface noise on this is pretty annoying. Anyone else have a similar issue.
Frdi
Same issues here, it's a pretty crappy sounding record to be honest. Especially around vocals and hats.
Amarin
One of the best hip-hop albums of all time! Lyrics, Flow, Beats & all!
Yozshujinn
Does anyone one have a different colored version than the ones mentioned on this site? The one I received has four different colors for both discs. Sides 0-1 are split between a plum and pink type colors and sides 2-3 are red and purple. The latter is reminiscent of Magneto's armor from the '90s X-Men cartoon. I haven't spun them yet so I'm unsure how the sound quality is. (there is also a possibility I blew my speakers a while back.)
Gogal
Sounds like you have this version: http://www.discogs.com/MF-Doom-Operation-Doomsday/release/5450134
Felolv
Yes I bought this yesterday and the vinyl has the same color pattern you described. Haven't been able to find out any information about it though...
Visonima
does this copy have a brushing noise like the grey reissue ?
Orevise
My research has found there were two pressings on the "gun metal" grey vinyl-- the first one is OK, relatively quiet for colored vinyl, the second pressing was bad, you can actually see it looking at the vinyl: looks dull instead of shiny. It would also appear the first pressing had the sticker on the left, the second had the sticker on the right (though I can't confirm they were all like this.)
Flathan
There is a lot of surface noise on my record too. Pretty annoying..
Hǻrley Quinn
I agree 100% with beatkomornik. Classic album, but surface noise is as loud if not louder than the music.
Quemal
the album is great (musically). however, the pressing and the remaster is not the best imho. my records are noisy as hell, the lyrics are often louder then expected and the whole thing is off-centered. too bad, because otherwise this is an out of this world album
Mopimicr
Well , my pressing had the same problem with the centerhole being a little to narrow but the sound is perfect , no or very few surface noises.
Debeme
Oh boy, what an amazing album! Even now, roughly 12 years after its release, it still sounds like nothing else. In fact, I have only known it for a relatively short while. Whilst the sound of the late 90's can be identified here and there, it's a timeless album. The production is incredibly raw - and that is a good thing! By messing about with samples from our favorite childhood TV series, MF Doom managed to squeeze more soul into this album than today's big producers will ever manage with their "clean and perfect" production. The fact that it was Doom's first solo-release after a long period of musical abstinence makes it even more impressive, somewhat like a piece of outsider art, unbiased by popular trends. The album - aside from tracks that are just straight forward and fun ("Rhymes Like Dimes") has an intense atmosphere, yet it's never taking itself too seriously. The title track is just plain beautiful and an instant seller. Tracks like "The Mic" or "Gas Drawls" pretty much sound like the soundtrack to some later afternoon fever-fantasy brought on my heat stroke - to me anyway. Almost like a suburban version of Boards of Canada.Highly recommended essential release not only to Rap and Hip Hop lovers.
